The Blood: Part III

"First The Blood, Then The Oil"

Review parts I & II

  • God looks for "the Blood", not the sacrifice.
  • Have we been obedient and applied "the Blood" to the doorway of our hearts?
  • The devil cannot cross the "bloodline". He can look in, but he can’t come in!
  • Unless the Blood has been applied, the sacrifice is of little value.
  • There is power in the Blood of Jesus:

o        To atone for our sins.

o        To cleanse our hearts and minds.

o        To bring healing to our bodies.

o        To give us victory over the powers of darkness.

o        To bring us into the presence of God.

Part III: "First the Blood, Then the Oil"

  • Until the Blood is applied, the anointing can not come!
  • The anointing always follows the Blood.
  • First the Blood………Then the Anointing!

READ: Leviticus 14:1-8, 14-18

Understanding the Imagery & the Spiritual Typology

  • Leprosy = a spiritual type of sin.
  • Two (2) birds =

- One bird was killed to symbolize that without the shedding of blood there is not forgiveness and cleansing for sin.

- The other bird was freed to symbolize newfound freedom.

  • Cedar wood = symbolic of the Cross of Jesus.
  • Scarlet string = Rahab’s scarlet cord
  • Hyssop = at the Cross, Jesus was given wine mixed with gall on a piece of hyssop (John 19:29)

The Ritual

1.     One of the birds will killed in an earthenware vessel as water was being poured over it.

- II Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, so that the surpassing greatness of the power will be of God and not from ourselves;

- Therefore, the blood and the water became mixed. Remember that in John 19:34, blood and water came from the side of Jesus when He was pierced by the Roman soldier.

2. The live bird, the cedar string, and the hyssop were to be dipped in the blood of the bird that was slain over the running water. (v.6)

3. The priest sprinkled the one being cleansed seven (7) times with the blood. He was pronounced (declared) clean. And, the live bird was set free.

          - When the live bird was released, the flapping of its wings would have "sprinkled blood" everywhere!

          4. On the eighth (8th) day there was there was another sacrifice. [Note verse 10.]

                   - two male lambs

                   - a yearling ewe lamb (1 year old)

                   - an ephah of fine flour

                   - a log of oil (= .31 liters which was just over a pint)

The Blood was applied. (v. 14) (Salvation)

  • The right ear = hearing and the mind (thought life)
  • The right thumb = the work of our hands
  • The right big toe = the path we walk

The Oil of Anointing (v.15)      (Spirit Anointing)

  • Sprinkled seven (7) times = Seven revelations of the Holy Spirit
  • Right ear
  • Right thumb
  • Right big toe
  • (v. 18) Anointing the head with what the priest had left in his left hand.

Apply The Blood…..Anoint with Oil

          1. Pray for your husband (wife) by name and apply the Blood to his/her right ear, right thumb, and right big toe.

          2. Do the same thing for each of your children. (By name!)

          3. Repeat the process and pray an anointing of the oil of the Holy Spirit upon them.
