The “Helps Ministry”

READ: I Corinthians 12: 27-31, One of The Problems In Corinth: The Corinthians were promoting the more spectacular of the public gifts above the more important ones.

Insights: - Every gift from God has significance and value.

     - But some carry greater honor than others

* Please, PLEASE.........Please, let’s not fall into the destructive game that says, “My gift is better than your gift ............ My calling is better than your calling”!

A Helping Hand:

The “Helps Ministry”, is like the fingers of your hand. Without fingers you have nothing but a palm or a stub! There is no way to pick up anything, let alone hold it. (i.e. reaching out to people)

The Corinthian Church is said to have had as many as 60,000 members. They really needed the “Helps Ministry”!

Examples of “Helps Ministry”: (This list is by no means complete.)

     - Treasurer

     - Sunday School Teacher

     - Worship Team Member

     - Prayer Chain Coordinator

     - Janitor

     - Social Committee Member

     - Hospitality Committee Member

     - Trustee

     - Sound Booth Workers

     - Nursery Workers

     - Ushers / Greeters

     - Visitation (hospital, nursing homes, shut-ins, etc.)

Without these ministries, the local church cannot function or fulfill the vision of God.

Basic Principles of the “Helps Ministry” ( Four Principles)

1. The “Helps Ministry” is God ordained. (V28)

     - That alone makes it significant and vital to the life of the Church..

     - Therefore, we never look down on ourselves or anyone else who is called to function in the “Helps Ministry”.

* We never say, “Oh, I’m just an usher” or “He’s just a trustee”.

     - If God has ordained it, He has also blessed it! And, we will never

function properly without it.

2. The “Helps Ministry” is a supernatural ministry.

     - It is listed among the other supernatural ministries: miracles, healing, and various kinds of tongues.

     - Those of you who function in the “Helps Ministry”, do you see yourself as operating in a supernatural ministry?

     - Do you operate in “signs and wonders”?

     - Or, do you find yourself saying, “I don’t do much........about the only signs and wonders I operate in is picking up the trash and cleaning up the mess”.

     - If so, we need to repent and say, “Lord enlarge my vision of who I am and the calling You have given me in Your Kingdom”.

     - You should expect that God will give you opportunities to minister “super naturally” into the lives of people.

     - (Insight) If we don’t understand this as a “supernatural ministry”, we will end up with a “program” driven church instead of a “vision” driven church.

3. The “Helps Ministry” insures that the church operates “effectively” and “efficiently” as she seeks to fulfill the vision of God.

     - In a very real sense it is the “Helps Ministry” that holds everything else up.

     - It is like a “pillar” or a “bearing wall” in a house.

     - The Pastor & Elders do carry the primary responsibility to discern and clarify the vision of God for the congregation as well as to give oversight.

     - BUT, it is the “Helps Ministry” that embraces and carries out the vision!

4. The “Helps Ministry” is a God honored ministry.

     - Dorcus in Acts 9: 36-43, functioned in the “Helps Ministry” (v.36).

     - When she died, God used Peter to raise her from the dead.

     - Not only was she resurrected from the dead, “many believed in the Lord” (v.42) as a direct result.

Embrace your call ...... Embrace your ministry!
